If you had the choice

I think that I would start out with a 1000gal and the rest start at a 500gal and down from there. I'm not into the big fish, but I would go with Betta-Gurl a Betta for as many of those tanks as I could! :cool2:

have no idea what would be the biggest tank you could put in a house.

We haven't had any problems (knock on wood!)....I don't think it would matter how big you went, as long as everything was done correctly in the construction.... :read:

How big is really possible in a home anyways?

300 gallons?
Just a tad smaller than the house :D

I've see a lot of 1000 +, 2000+ and a few over 3000, so if you have the space and money there is really no limit.

I would go with option 3, a large tank (show) and then a lot of 100+ gallons to breed and sell fish from.

I wouldn't see any problems with your tank with the way you built it. just for information, my tank is built out 7inch concrete which has been fibreglassed for waterproofing, it then has a acrilic viewing window.

I would have to agree you N8DOGG , go the biggest you can go

Do you have and pictures of your tank? and info on how it was built? I was just talking about this type of tank the other day.

If I had my way I'd build the tank and then the house around the tank. :p

One huge tank and then have lots of plants and huge school of neon or cardinal tetras in there. :D So yeah, I would go with this huge SA river tank, with Neons, angels, discus and maybe a fw sting ray or 2 in there.

I do have pictures of the tank being built but i will have to get to a scanner.
Like you said "build the tank and then the house around the tank" Thats exactly what i did . My house is made out of re-enforced concrete so the tank and house are literally one unit. I then had the acrilic panal placed in and sealed. I have thought of the future as well , knowing myself i knew that after a couple of years i would want somthing bigger, so i allowed for enough space(if i could afford it and my wife would allow it) for the possibility of a 10,000 gallon(33ft*9ft*5ft). Whether this idea goes ahead or not i am still working on it, most likely it wont go ahead because of the costs involved. But i love big tanks with big fish. :shark:
