... Then you can now know I will probably NOT get an outdoor pond. I'm shooting for an indoor one. I'm thinking about a big rubbermaid/sterile container. I'll measure out the gallons and find a more flat one because the higher the walls are, the more likely the box itself is to split. I'm also probably going to get a tarp, to make sure it doesn't leak.

Depending on how big it is, I'll put in 1 to 2 shubunkins and heat using an aquarium heater that fits the pond size.

I've seen really adorable shubunkins at my local dealer they are blue with orange and black spots. The only prob is that they are 5 inces and I know they'll get bigger.
 
hmmmm ...

Instead of a rubbermaid container (unless you like the look of the clear plastic or are going for something small) why don't you get a preformed pond liner. They would be deeper and have more of a "pond" feel I think. If you happen to like one that needs some kind of support you can always get some decorative bricks and use some pretty plants arranged along the outside to give it an even more "outdoorsy" feel.

Just a thought!
 
Uhm... I am sorta looking for small stuff. Like as in 'Would fit in my room' size, cuz I'm only a girl(by that, I mean a pre-teen).

I'm going to use an aquarium filter like this rubbermaid type box is an aquarium. I have a 1 gallon container that I'll use to measure how many gallons it is. I'm going to use the empty one I have at home now, and as the fish gets bigger, I'll try to get bigger containers to keep up with his size.
 
There is usually no need to measure or guess at how many gallons a plastic container is (specifically Rubbermaid’s) as they have the gallon amount written on a sticker on the box.

I’m not sure how much fun a Rubbermaid container will be, they are often used to house fish in an emergency situation, however a big Rubbermaid container in your room will look just like that, a container for storage.

I think if you were to get a “pond-like” contraption, you could get one of those 30-50 gallon barrels they sell as a pond. That would look more realistic, and shouldn’t be an eye sore either. ;)
 
I still only want one big enough to house a shubunkin until he outgrows it.

Will I be able to house him in a too-small "pond" If I overfilter? Does that help?
 
Over filtering doesn't help as much as people seem to think. In the end, it’s the copious water changes that do the trick. But more than anything, if a space is too small for a goldfish to reach its desired length, then there is nothing filtration can do about that. In the end, it will come down to the physical space a fish needs to grow.
 
Ok.

I think that if the shubunkin doesn't mind then I'll put in a feeder goldy and save him from being eaten :)
