Illegal Snakeheads

I didn't know Snakeheads were illegal. I have a co-worker that has one here in Chicago.

aybe the law has changed, but in some places it was legal to have a snakehead, if you had one before the law was enacted. But it remands illegal to sell, buy, or import the fish. So your co-worker may or may not be breaking the law.

Importation of Channa species into the US, or transport of Channa species across state lines is banned nationwide. Many states also ban the possession of Channa species, and most, if not all, states also prohibit the sale and distribution of Channa species.

I'd read an article where they found a few in the chicago river, but I never heard what they did about it. I know they were concerned they would get into lake michigan from it though.
