I'm new here & just thought I'd say "Hi". I lurked here a bit back about 4 years ago when I first got my 55gal. I'll admit that I neglected the tank off and on for a while, then got a bit serious again with it. Unfortunately, after adding a few new fish early this year, I got a bad case of ich, didn't respond in the best manner (caught it late & used meds that didn't work well). I ended up losing about 6 or 7 fish, all except a neon dwarf rainbow that never got a spot on him though the whole thing. He's still with us.

Just recently, we upgraded ALL the equipment (including the tank) except for our two 200gal/hr Aqua Clears and the heater. We ended up adding quite a few small fish, but are keeping our eye on water chemistry using a master freshwater test kit with some amrid packs close by if necessary.

A week later after the upgrade, new fish, & apparently quite good water conditions....ich again. :( We ended up using most of the water from the old tank, but hadn't seen ich in the old tank since the deaths six month or so ago, so I'm guessing it came with the new fish.

Thanks to all of you here :bowing: , we are treating the ich with salt this time, and are in the process of setting up a new quaranteen tank for all future new fish!
I'm running my tank temp at about 83 to 85F now with the salt in. Although I have a new 200w heater on the shelf, it's the best my existing 200w will do alone. Also, I'm worried about the high temp with my glowlite tetras and beta. I think I'm gonna watch what the salt does and get ready to add the 2nd heater and a few degrees more if things don't improve over the next week.

Anway, thanks to everyone for all the great information here - I'll look forward to be a part of this community! :dive2:

PS- any observations/input/concerns about my fish inventory lisited below?
