It is an improvement. Slowly, you are learning. Good for you dude! But you should still re-think some of the other fish, especially the 12" gar. If you really do plan on getting a larger tank, why not wait till you have it to get the big dogs? Im not going to sit here and lecture you all day about this, cuz youve already heard it and are getting things done so....bravo

Well done. Now you can care more about the remaining fish and give them better conditions of life.

I'm thinking about trying canister filters and wet/dry filters and such that make the water good enough for a discus (filter wise). I think they are expensive. How much are we talking for a 55? wich one is better? Im not ready to do some extincive research until I know the buget I need. Ironicly, I was at a few christmas parties today, and both my godmother and my best friend could not wait to give me one of my gifts eraly and I got 2 $20 dollar gift cards on the same day! :bday: :bday:

A good bio is key to a good discus tank. A wet/dry is perfect. Price a wet/dry sized for a 55 with an overflow box if you dont have the tank drilled. If its out of your price range, then there are plenty DIY wet/dry's you can do yourself. I would go with the wet/dry and a small simple canister filter to be used strictly as a form of mechanical filtration. But if you really want to succeed at discus, be prepared to do the water changes necessary...
