In Line Heaters

About two weeks ago I replaced the internal glass heaters on my 125 with two 300w hydor inlines. Due to a filter issue I was forced to run just one of them for a week until another filter arrived. They absolutely rock. The room my tank is in goes down to 60 degrees at night. Even with just one heater the temp stayed rock solid varying maybe .2 of a degree. This was not the case with the internal glass heaters. I am positively anal about water leaks and I was highly hesitant about hanging something off the back of my tank with another potential leakage point. The way the hydors are constructed with locking nuts on the hose connections is awesome. I fabricated some hangers off the back of my tank and used wire ties to help support them but the general consensus here is just let them hang. Like I said, I'm a bit anal. Check out Kens Fish. Very competitive prices and good service. That's were I bought mine.

I agree on the Hydors. I've got two Hydors and they have worked well without any problems for several years now.

what about if your filter stops pumping water???? wouldnt that bust everything????

From the web: " There's no danger of damage to equipment if unit is left running without water flow for a short period of time. Heater switches "Off" to avoid overheating."
What's a "short period of time? Generally speaking, if my filters stop pumping then my power failed and that would also kill juice to the heaters. I'd be interested to here from anyone using these that actually have a pump failure and ran these heaters without a flow through them for an extended periods of time.
