In praise of the common Harlequin rasbora

Also forgot to mention. Some of them appear a little more orange then the rest that are reddish. They dont look like the bright orange/copperish that espeis are.

Hi
had to comment on this as these are among my favorite fish Though I like the glass like quality of tetras particularly in planted tanks.
I thgik most people fail to appreciate these type fish because they fail to keep enough of them.. The larger the group the better,
A dealer near me had a 10 foot river tank that contained 2000 cardinal tetras ,(No I did not count them lol) The schooling behaviour was awesome as they would all gather in one large mass sort of pulsating then one would start off and they followed almost single file to the other end of the tank where they would again form a mass.
If you scred them they would scatter and the smaller groups would keep massing until all were togathet again. Most I've ever kept is 25 and in a much smaller tank . Never observed schoolinhg like that Was awesome. Bet it would work that way with Harleys?? gary

Cool, the only person I "know" with a bunch of rasboras is msjinks but I bet thats an awesome sight! It's too bad we often think of "schools" of 6-12 fish when BIG shoals should be the goal...

I agree. If I decide to get a school of Rasboras, I'm going to go with (at the very least) 24 fish. If I had an Xlarge tank, I'm thinking of 75+.

i find harlequin's and espi's quite similar in behavior. Mine actually school together in a pack of 15 in my 30 gallon and they are quite the aggressive eater. i enjoy mass schools of fish. They display the best effects. I'm planning to get around 30 neons in my 55 gallon so they would look even nicer.

I love to hear about the schooling of the big groups. Setting up a 20g long and am looking at 9-12 harlies (or espeis ... but I keep leaning toward the harlies. I like their oddball shape.) Wish it could be more, but I have to remember all the other fish that will be going into the tank as I put the community together. :)

illinidorry, congrats on the new fish. Pics would be welcome!

wish I had video. You guys would get a real kick out of my holding tanks! I usually have 100-600 of each species in the tanks. Talk about really seeing them school!
