since my filter is doing a poor job with its bio filtration, i thought about an in tank bio filter. check the picture for a general idea of how it looks.

the bio-ball-holder would be discuised as a log cabin with brown filter mesh at both ends. think it'll work?

What kind of filter do you have that is not working?

For me, the best in tank bio filter is RFUG.

If you are going to have submerged bio-media then you might as well have it in a canister outside the tank and save the tank room. Otherwise you could look at above tank wet/dry trickle which is excellent bio-filtration and hidden under the hood.

Sponge filters!!!:D

Bioballs don't do well submersed. They are better in a wet/dry application.
Sponge filters are your best bet IMO.

would normal sponges work?

the filter is an eheim canister, which has limited room for biomedia.

i cant do anything outside the tank itself, because the tank itself serves as a halfwall.

Air powered sponge filters like these will be much more effective than submersed bioballs.
