I have a lovely pair of green severums in a tank who have paired up and spawned a few times now.
Before I was assuming other fish were getting to the eggs and that's why i never saw any fry.
They lay a large area of gold colored eggs. Some turn whitish, I assume these ar ethe ones that get fungus on them. I have taken steps to try to provide much cleaner water hoping to control any fungus outbreaks hitting them.
I have also isolated them on thier own half of a 55 gallon tank so they would have space to themselves, to eliminate the chances of another predator getting the eggs.
Still after a few days the eggs just vanish. No fry. nothing, not even wrigglers.
Has anybody else had a problem with established pairs of Severums laying eggs and guarding them as normal parents but being infertile?
Is there any definative guide to the best water conditions for thier eggs to hatch in? THey are currently in water which has 0 ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, PH of 6.8, temp staying right around 78 degrees.
I'm just consfused and trying to help them become happy parents and all.
