i,m thinking about buying 3 bamboo shrimp for my planted tank and i would to know how to take care of them. i know they are filter feeders and i,m going to put two thick clumps of lucky bamboo on each side of my filter with just enough room for the filter outlet to be unobstructed so they can hang out on the plant they were named after while picking the tasty bits out of the strong current. i just want to know the details on keeping them happily fed and cared for,how much calcium do they prefer in the water? etc. thanks

As long as the tank is well-established (old tank) with a strong current, you're good to go. Calcium dosing the water is not needed for FW.
Also, make sure the bamboo sticks you're throwing into the tank is sticking out of the water. Fully submerged sticks die. That's pretty much it. No special feeding is needed for them.

I agree with Yadokari, they`re so easy to keep in an established tank. I love Bamboo shrimp ,they`re so funny to watch!! I`m trying to find some for my tank since they`re one of my Grandchildrens favorite critters...after the African Dwarf frogs.

I keep mine in established tanks and I still feed them powdered and liquid fry food just to be on the safe side. They are pretty easy to care for. I don't put calcium in my water but I do leave their 'shells' in the water once the molt. Regular water changes seem to be enough to replenish the nutrients they need to form their exoskeleton.

just make sure there is a current in the tank and plenty of stuff floating around, sometimes i blow some brine shrimp into my shrimp's fan and it loves it

Basically all you need is a place where the shrimp can hang out in next to a current and a tank older than a couple of months so the population of little bugs is established so they can feed on them. You can also supplement their diet by mixing powdered baby fish food in some water, then injecting it with a syringe "upstream" from the shrimp.

I have mine in with my corys, neons and snails. I have had them 2 days and they are filtering like mad. They are so cute and not skittish at all.
