inside canopy

I will be changing out my lighting system this weekend ( I think, if my wife doesn't have anything on the honey do list ) My canopy is made from raw birch currently and I am thinking about painting the inside a bright white. My question is does the paint have to be an epoxy base paint or can it be a standard paint? my ends are open so I do not have an issue with moisture or humidity. thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure on the paint, only used stain and poly on my stand and canopy.

Just an option, you could go the route I did. I polyurethaned the canopy to make it water proof then I used a roll of metal tape for the majority of the inside of the canopy. I have had zero problems with the tape in a humid environment.

thanks, what type of tape is that? metal duct tape? If not where would I look for it and whats the cost of it?

I painted the inside of our canopy with white exterior latex -- no problems with the moisture.

I didn't even paint the inside of my canopy. Just stain and polyurethane. I let the reflectors do the reflecting .

thanks for the replies, I wasn't sure if it would be to any advantage to paint it or not. I thought I might get some added reflection back to the water.

With an efficient reflector, it won't matter in any case. You could theoretically paint it whatever color you like. Many people don't even have canopies to begin with--just nice reflectors.

Metal tape was like $11 for a 100ft roll, yes, it is for ducting. Initially I was only going to use it for a few spots but then I just kept going since I had a big roll of it to kill. I think it reflects ok for being as cheap as it is, and IMO is does look nice even with all the wrinkles.
