Installing a Hood, How much can glass hold?

Hi,

Just a quick Q.

60 x 24 x 24 10mm glass. Could a hood be mounted stright on top of tank? Will glass hold the hood with lights, 1 MH and a few PC's.

Was thinking of just build a box out of marine ply and just popping on top

The lights shouldn't weigh that much unless your ballasts are in there too--which is not a good idea anyway due to moisture.
Every canopy I've seen sits right on top of the tank. They aren't that heavy--depends on the wood. What are your plans--wood type, height of the canopy, ballast location, etc?
