i'm sure livebearers just do it for the heck of it, too. really, if one sperm injection will impregnate the female for almost all her life, why keep doing it?

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to
Its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.

That's ridiculous. I assume the male dies from this.

Suppose you kept them as pets. You'd have a dilemma. Would you want them to mate or not? Interesting.

Actually it is not rediculous. By killing the mate(and consuming him) you preovide nutrition to the offspring. And if you do keep them as pets, and wish to breed them, you take into account thier natural ways. I would assume you could trade the babies for another adult male if you wished to continue breeding. It would be no different than keeping black widdows.

Now how about that piggy?!

"The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping
The length of a football field."

Along the fact about the flee is accurate the human eqiuvalent would be closer to 6 football fields

My grandmother always used to quote: "When being chased by an alligator try to swim in a zig-zag pattern because alligators can't turn corners very well."

I am not sure where she got it, but I am pretty sure I would get eaten in that circumstance.

"The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds."
many of those taste buds are all over their bodies, not just in their mouth or on their barbels. that sounds creepy, to be tasting pond crud with your back... blegh, i'll do without.

that comment about the sows smiling was too good for words!!! :D
