Hello all,

I never have had a fish tank before and we just set it up tonight. My wife's aunt was kind enough to give us her 33 gallon tank and 5 fish. The tank was just getting to be too much to take care of for her.

I'm 22 and live in the Pittsburgh area, just married in July.

Now that you know a little about me, here's my fish.

Two cichlids

Something the aunt called an "algae eater".

Massive catfish.

Cichlid.

There's another fish I couldn't get a picture of, it looks like a small, square-shaped catfish.

So, I'll be posting periodically, probably asking for helping and cruising the archives.

As is pretty typical with inherited setups, you may have some compatibility issues lurking. Post up in the FW areas for better visibility and advice. The "algae eater" is actually a very wonderfully colored botia almorhae I believe. I think some are African cichlids which will have different needs longterm.

Congrat to you and your new bride on the marriage and fish tank! :D

Yep, this pic is Botia almorhae. I'd consider a 55g for a small group of these fish. They prefer to be kept in groups. I'd recommend 5 minimum. Suitable tankmates are usually barbs, rasboras and danios. They're not compatible with African cichlids though.

Your catfish is a Synodontis eupterus while your cichlids are Melanochromis auratus and the other one possible Pseudotropheus elongatus (not my position to identify this one correctly though). Both cichlids are belligerent and best kept in a 55g minimum as well but not with the loaches.

Thanks for the welcomes all,

I'm a little upset my aquarium is already screwy...

This is why I joined though.

If any of you would like to continue to help me, my new thread is here
