Yippee I finally caught the hitchhiker crab that came in on some live rock. I've got no idea what species it is. Shell size is about 2 inches.

Does that mean that crab is not great for reef or to have in SW?

The crab does look kind of neat but it's taken out more than half of my snails. It's also doubled in size since I first spotted it and I was worried that it would start taking an interest in my fish. I'm not really sure what to do with it now. My LFS might take it off my hands otherwise I might just put it in the fuge. You have no idea what a relief it is to have that thing out of the tank.
OIC, I wouldn't want it taking out my snails either. Dang, its nifty looking one though :cool2:

It's now in the refugium. I had to shuffle some rocks about just to make sure he never gets into the main tank. All I need to do now is get that pesky camel shrimp out. It's a bit more crafty.

Camels are distinctive--they have a hump on their backs, giving them a peaked appearance. They are not reef safe--they will eat many of the benthic organisms we try to promote. I made the mistake of putting them in my 10--they wiped out a variety of worms and pods in about 1 week. Back to the store with them!
Well I spent 3 hours last night trying to capture the camel shrimp. After removing 3/4 of my live rock and a lot of water I finally caught it. I put it in my fuge and my plan was to take it and intruder crab to the LFS. Guess what. This morning he is back in the main tank :mad2: Somehow it managed to get through all the obstacles to prevent him getting in. Now I'm going to have to do this all over again. Oh well nobody to blame except myself.
The deed is done. My LFS took both the crab and shrimp. They IDd the crab as some kind of gorilla grab. Not reef safe. Said it would make a nice snack for one of his puffers
