So one of the three fish in my 20gal shrimp and snail tank got ich. These fish are almost impossible to get out of the tank so I was wondering if there is a safe way to treat for it. I heard of potassium permanganate being used would that hurt shrimp? They are cherry red shrimp

Yeah I'm pretty sure PP would not be a good idea since it's used to rid plants of snail eggs. Not sure it's a very effective ich remedy either. I would just go with upping the temps, maybe 1-2 degrees per hour until you are at 85. Leave it there for about 10 days minimum, I usually do 2 weeks to be sure.
Don't try this if you don't have a way of adding additional circulation and aeration but most of us have some air pumps, powerheads etc. laying around so it shouldn't be hard to do! Also drop your water line so the filter(s) make more splash. The fish will be very hungry and active, but other than that I've never had any issue treating ich simply with heat.
Oh and one more thing, supposedly diatom filters can rid your tank of ich...but I know nothing about this...maybe someone else does?

I was able to separate this fish before the ich had time to spread, and hes now being quarantined in warm semi salty water that is mega aerated. The ich is almost gone
If the ich was on your fish, the ich is in the water. I'll be surprised if none of the other fish in the infected tank come up with it eventually. It's not a disease that spreads directly from fish to fish, it is a parasite, and you must eradicate it from the entire tank.
yeah i know...which is why im confused the other two did not get it. Its been long enough though that if it hasnt shown up by now it either went dormant (which i read doesnt happen with ich) or it was not able to get a hold and just died out. I raised the temperature as well
