I had made a post earlier about my crabs and star fish, my star has recently lost 2 of its arms. My lfs has suggested giving it an iodine bath if anyone has experience doing this and can advise me in doing this, as in how much iodine and water I could use the help and thats only if this is what I should do.The lfs said it sounded like my star was sick but I dont know this for sure and I dont want to stress it if I dont need to. Thanx Dave E

Iodine acts as both a general disinfectant and an irritant to the subject causing it to produce more slime and hopefully slough off any parasites.

Dipping corals in an iodine solution is a practice that some reefers do all the time.

I've never seen a starfish dipped, but here's a link to dipping zooanthid corals using Lugol's (which is a super-concentrated iodine solution):

Not to discourage you, but if the starfish is one of the more fraglie varieties like a linkia or a fromia, it's probably a goner if it's starting to drop arms.
