Is anyone familiar with the Rhinohorn goby?

I am interested in the species Redigobius balteatus also known as the Rhinohorn goby. I first read about them in Neale Monks book Brackish Water Fishes. They are quite small, around the size of a BBG. None of my LFS have ever heard of them so the odd of acquiring some through them is nil.

This place sells them.

I think they are cute looking fish. I placed an order from there a while back and thought about adding rhinohorns to my order, but decided against it, when I could find little info on their care.
They list them as a freshwater goby, but I am not sure if that info is correct.

I just noticed they are out of stock, but you could try giving them a call to see if more will be available.

Coincidentally enough, I think I talked to him about Rhinohorns a year or so back. Low-end brackish is required, care otherwise similar to BBGs.

I've seen them on Aquabid, along with a lot of other things I wish I hadn't seen there because people don't take the time to research and take into consideration that they need brackish conditions. They are very interesting little fish.

Thank you for the web address Twister's mom. I can't believe I actually got a response to my query! Three of them, so thanks all! I had read their care was similar to the BBGs but I wonder if they would by bullied by them.

According to Fishbase, the rhinohorn's max size is 3.8 cm or 1.5 in. At that size I would expect them to be able to hold their own against BBG's if not pose some dominance over them. Just don't crowd either species. I've seen BBG's do nasty things to both their conspecifics and guppies.

All my fish give the BBGs a pretty wide berth. I think their coloring and permanent scowls send a pretty clear message, "STAY AWAY FROM ME".

I'd imagine they get along well enough. If nothing else, you could always try asking Neale himself or the folks over at Gobygroup.
