Is diatoms mean trouble

Hi, i have just recently setup a 72 gal tank, and for the last 2 days I start seeing a brown layer grow on top of my sand bed and LR, people telking me is Diatoms.. it that true? and if so how can I prevent it or treat it?:help:

I'm no expert on this.. i've heard a few different things. sometimes it just goes away on its own. it blooms then decays off.

I got some clean up crew. my hermits made short work of my brown algae, now there's hardly any to speak of.

I got a turbo snail, he made mincemeat out of the diatom. 2 days later the tank was nice and clean.

I got the diatom in my tank as well.It is part of the cycle from what I understand.I took it as a good thing that my tank was maturing..I used a magnet on the glass and added snails and hermit crabs and they took care of it for me on the sand and rock.

Missc4 May I ask what type of Snail you used? I have couple of Astrea but they work very slow
