..Or, is it a '2-way mirror ?

When we visit restrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them)? There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at? Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, FOR IT IS a 2-WAY MIRROR!

No Space, Leave the Place" So remember, every time you see a Mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything.

Remember: "No Space, Leave the Place!"

I haven't verified this as 100% true, but it seems like it is.
And, whether or not, you now have another idiosyncrasy!! :D

Paranoia of that magnitude certainly costs you some of the joy of life.

There was a building here in San José, where the sidewalk level walls were made out of 2-way mirrors. When it was installed it was a new wonder here (about 30 years ago) and very few people seemed to undesrtands what was that. My mother told me she saw -from the inside of the building- people on the sidewalk doing their hair, looking at their tongues and even pulling a booger out of their nose.

Anyway, I'm always suspicious of large mirrors in the walls or celing in the overnight hotels commonly used by people to do the nasty. Sometimes It feels like Candid Camera or something.

That's why I always do my secret dancing in front of every mirror. Most people would turn off the camera after seeing me natural. :D

Did I think that, or actually typed it...

For me, I wouldn't have thought of the word 'paranoid'. But, I never knew of this test, and its nice to when someone is that 'sneaky' or 'deviant' to watch behind the 2-way mirror.

Man, I thought I was the only person who thought about this!!! LOL Thanks, Joe, I needed that. :bowing:

From what I can figure, a two way mirror is a piece of reflective glass, while a regular mirror is a piece of clear glass infront of a reflective material. That would be why you can see a gap between your finger and the reflection. You could easily have a reflective piece of glass behind a regular piece of glass to make that test not work.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean no one's watching me.
