Is it normal for a Golden Zebra loach to dig into the gravel with its head? and my other zebra loaches are scratching! i just had whitespot last week and theyre scratching again! i treated the tank with a dose of formalin yesterday but the loaches are still scratching! :help:

How long did you treat the white spot? Here (US) we often use malachite green & formalin, takes 7-14 days as I recall AFTER the spots are gone. You have you wait until the ich falls off the fish, into the gravel to hatch as free swimmers. It's only the free swimming stage meds kill & that reinfect the fish. I haven't had it in a long time (knock wood) but it helps to vacuum up as many cysts as possible daily too.

I have histrionica loaches, I think that's golden zebras & yea, they sometomes dig for worms or other good stuff. But "flashing" against substrate or decor may mean the white spot isn't gone, it especially likes to hide in the gills.

oh great. well i last treated them on thursday (i think) and in nz its sunday morning, but i dont want it reinfecting so i guess, the plants are going back into the bucket and my tanks gonna turn blue. yeah i bought 2 bottles (formalin and white spot cure) from the brand Wunder and the white spot cure has malachite green in it. do you think this is a good plan to treat them again? also should i treat with a formalin again? (i treated them with Formalin yesterday)

My Plan is:

1. 50% Water Change
2. Put all Plants in Bucket
3. Treat with White Spot Cure (and Formalin?)

Is this a good idea?

What's your temp set at? Often, you can treat with the addition of aquarium salt and raising the temp (to the mid 80's F, I think) without the addition of chemical to the water. Hopefully someone more experienced with ich will chime in.

On a side note, why are you removing your plants?

Because on the bottle it says that the medication might kill the plants. Ill raise the temp back up. cant add salt it will hurt my loaches

Ok it sounds like you only did 1 dose? As I remember it's dosed every other day for a total of 10-14 days. Yes, it;s hard on plants because people suggest upping the temp to 88F+ to speed the ich lifecycle. If it has malachite green it is light sensitive (maybe formalin too) so keep the lights off. Removing plants can be a good idea if you can quaratine them for 3-4 weeks, no host & ich will die.

Ok my White Spot Cure bottle says 1ml per 20 litres of aquarium, on day 3 add 1ml per 40 litres of aquarium water.

Im going to put the plants in a bucket, dose what it says, turn off the lights and feed with a food recommended from my LFS which has Garlic in it twice a day (morning and night).
