Is it possible to breed for Blood parrots?

Not that I'm going to do it but I'm just curious. Wondering if casual people do it or just special breeders? And if so would you use a female RD? I'm assuming a male would kill a female Sev.
 
blood parrots are hybirds, so theoretically they should be steril, but 75% of females can reproduce succesfully with another species of cichlid. the other 25% makes steril eggs.
most if not all male blood parrots are steril, and if there were any thay were fertile then it would be a very small percent like less than one.
so yes, females can reproduce, and anyone can do it. the mose common varieties are the true jelly bean parrots and the king kong parrots.
jelly beans are made from a convict male and a blood parrot female mating.
king kongs are much harder to breed, as they are from a female blood parrot and a male midas cichlid.
 
Yeah but they had to start from somewhere. I thought most were a mix of RD's and Sevs?

i would think that it is, since if 1 male is fertile, then his offspring will be also, and then all of their offspring will be fertile, and eventually all of them will. it might take a long time, but it will eventually.
the jellybean and king kong if im not mistaken are fertile (i know this for a fact with the jellybeans)
 
Maybe I asked the question wrong...... If a person were to get say a female RD and a Male Sev would they reproduce and create BP's? OR would the RD just kill the Sev since they are so aggressive? Or is this just something left to specialty breeders?
