is it worth it for to take my peppermint shrimp out of my tank because it s packed full of eggs? I read someones 50 day blog on peppermint shrimp and he didn't have any success. Do you guys think it is worth a shot or le nature take its course?

I haven't removed any of our shrimp when they've been carrying eggs. If I had a little more space, I'd probably try it just to see how far I could get with them. From the little I've read, it seems very important to have proper flow and the appropriate food for the young. I definitely think it's worth a shot if you're willing to give it a try and can put all the pieces together to hopefully make it work (tank set-up, food, etc.). Sure, peppermint shrimp only retail for $6 - $8 each, so there's really not any money to be made out of it on the scale most of us hobbyists could handle, but the experience itself would be worth it if you're into those kinds of things. Otherwise, the newly hatched young will make a good snack for your fish and corals.

Both my peppermint shrimp and cleaner shrimp periodically get pregneant. Eventually, they release the eggs and everybody in my tank gets a great snack. I guess you could try and raise them if you want to but it wouldn't be worth the time to me.

Can't remember where I read it but finding food suitable for baby shrimps is the challenge, that and protecting them from the filters and other fish!

I remember when mine first produced babies (when I first started) I was such a novice, I got all excited thinking I could raise them and sell them to my LFS (1,000 babies and he charged me £12.00 for one shrimp - kerching!) 2 minutes later I looked back at the tank and they were gone:cry: I was mortified.

Now I'm like the others - free food!
