Is my AC filter too loud?

I just bought an AC50 for a 10 gallon and I just want to know if anything is wrong with it. the noise from the motor is obvious, but I was able to sleep well last night with it running a few feet away from me. well i put my ear against the tank and it gives a distinct humming sound for my tank inahbitants! is this normal? will my fish be stressed by this constant humming of the motor??

you will be stressed more then your fish. i feel your pain my fluval go so loud it drives me crazy. i havent ran one in a long time but i thought the sound of the water droping was louder then the filter.

Most filters will have some type of hum to them,this is normal. If it becomes or is very loud then this may mean there is something wrong with the filter. Try placing your hand on the motor case and see how hot it is. If it is pretty hot then there most likely is something wrong. I myself use AC brand and have never noticed a loud hum from mine.

Also as a AC50 offers alot of filteration for a 10g it might be to much for the fish themselves depending on the fish.
