i have a 10 gallon tank with a whisper in-tank filter and it is really really bad, but i am currently upgrading to a 29 gallon and i was wondering if this other filter is any better?

I like my Penguin 200 .... when you fill the water in the tank to the right level, this thing doesnt make a sound at all, except a mild mild humming noise produced by the motor.

is the marineland penhuin bio-wheel filter any good?, YES VERY RELIABLE .Our 29 has a Penguin 200 on it.............:)

awesome! thank you so much! i was recomended this other kind of filter, i was told it was much more reliable than the penguin filter, but it is also much more expensive. (right now the penguin filter is on sale) and if the penguin gets the job done right then i guess i will go with it. and what kind do i want for a 29 gallon? and how long do i need to run it before i move my fish to the 29 gallon aquarium?

You can add your fish immediately after set up and dechlorinate the water, just place your old filter on the tank or your filter cartridge can be stuffed in the new filter as long as it isn't impedeing flow too much. Leave it there for 2-4 weeks and you should be fine.

The Penguin you would need is the Penguin 200 or if you have an overstocked tank, the Penguin 350. As people say, two filters are better than one, so a Penguin 100 and a Penguin 200 would be perfect. 300gph total, a little over 10 times turn over which is perfect. Make sure you acclimate your fish!!

;)

I have a Penguin 100, and it's great.

My thoughts

I have 3 penguin 350s 2 penguin 200s 2 penguin 100s.. I feel they are awesome HOBs...

I say get the 200 even though the 150 will work for a 29, with the 200 you can have the extra filtration & later the 200 will handle a moderately stocked 55g.

as far a how long.... what is your stock list? that will have an impact...

I would put 18g fresh (conditioned) in the 29 & move the water, fish & filter from the 10 to the 29 for a week, then remove the filter that was in the 10 & hold off on a WC till week 2.. but again that would depend on the fish (and count) in the tank..
