hello, Im new so I hope this in in the right forum :)

I have a 2 gallon tank with my guppy fry in it, and today during a partial water change I noticed a bunch of long, thin, white worm-like things near the gravel. Are they paracites and if so do you think the medication will hurt the fry? (they are less than a day old!!!)

thanks
Laura

If that guppy in your avatar is one of yours, he is a real beau!

The worms, I would think they are Nematodes... Nematodes are thinner than Planaria and tend to squiggle in the tank's water column. I'm not sure if Planaria does that as excessively as Nematodes do. Both types of worm are harmless to fish in themselves, and live on excessive nutrients in the tank. So as Pixie says, cut back on the feedings, keep an eye on the water and maintenance and things should clear up.

thanks for the help, and the complements! the fish in the avitar isnt mine, but I do have a half black (or blue, I dont know what the difference is, they look the same to me!) male guppy that looks a lot like that. hes my pride and joy!

:ot: I was thinking of breading him with one of my fry once she is old enough.
