Is this lava rock and ceramic rings? pic inside

Don't know whether this is white lava rock or crushed coral.

And the ceramic rings i use are much more porous than these. Same thing?

And yes, crappy pics, macro setting doesn't do its job
 
I have no idea about the rocks, but the more light you use, the easier it will be for your camera to focus in macro mode.
 
All the lava rock that I've seen is a dark brown to balck colour. And that's stuffs more coral coloured, So though I'm not a rock expert I'd say you've got coral in the top pic.
 
The bottom pic is a strong type of ceramic ring, it wont fall apart after being used for a long time. Some of the really porous rings fall apart after a couple of years, but the advantage they have is that they do allow more surface area for the bacteria to colonize. I would have to say that those rocks are not lava rock, but I am no rock expert.
