Is Seachem Meridian Gray Coast Substrate

It says that it is ok for reef, marine, or tropical fishtanks. Does a Betta tank qualify as tropical? Or is this substrate better left for saltwater tanks?

Iunno know bout the sub. but yes ....bettas are "tropical"

Are you planning on injecting CO2? If you are, than stay away from marine substrates, as they contain a lot of CaCO3, which dissolves in the presence of carbonic acid, making for some very unhappy fish...

yes, I agree with Goatman. Marine substrates often contain buffers that increase pH because marine setups need to be in the more alkaline range to maintain coral. I'd say probably stick with plain old gravel, is safer.

I've actually used it in FW Applications. This is Onyx Sand just renamed. I placed a fine layer of Peat below the substrate and grew a nice lawn of Hairgrass in the tank.

I also use this in 19GAL tank where my Cryptocoryne goes like a weed in it. In this tank I have 1 Betta, 6 Harlequin Rasboras and 9 Amano Shrimp.
