Mine is a sinker and always stays down on the bottonm of the tank. He has to swim very very hard to stay on top of the tank.. is there anything wrong with him? can he be trained to swim like a fish?

How big is he? RESs are usually very strong swimmers. However, if you have one that floats its not a good thing, could be a sign of a respiratory infection.

Mine are pretty close to nuetral, but slightly sink. They just have to "tred" water, moving their legs/arms about once a second, or a tad bit faster.

Though Usually when they move, they move fast! The only time they aren't swimming rather vigorously, is if they're breathing, or sitting at the bottom.

his shell is about 10 inches long.

I have seen RES swims like a fish. or should I say, it can dive and surface according to will. my RES just doesn't do that.
