Whats The Deal? I Have A Belly Crawler Pike Cichlid And A Green Terror. The Pike Has Always Kind Of Scratched His Body Against The Gravel And Bogwood, And I Just Thought He Was Weird. Now My Green Terror Is Doing It Also. There Was A Jack Dempsey With Them Until Earlier Today, I Gave Him His Own Tank. Is This A Parisite Or Something Like That? Or Do Fish Just Do That? My Red Devil Or Oscars Have Never Done Such A Thing. Its Odd.

no white dots or anything..already checked. thats why i'm confused. if not ich then what? does the same med take care of it. or are there specific meds for specific paraisites?
Ich prefers the gills, and it won't be seen there. The scrathing is a definate sign of something ammiss, and ich is the most common cause, but there are several. In addition to parisites, high ammonia and nitrite will cause them to flash and scratch their gills.
Essentially anything that irritates the skin or gills will cause scratching and flashing. Start out with basic water tests and eliminate chemistry first. then if nothing is found, Treat for ich, and then go on to the next possiblility etc.

CSM ~ dave offers the best advice. Make sure that after you go through a complete treatmen cycle for Ich that you siphon the gravel. Also during your treatment for ich, make sure to raise the temperature several degrees in the tank. It doesn't help the meds, but it does speed up the life cycle of the parasite.
when i type on this site i'm usually at work where i run MDT most of the day so i am typing in all CAPS. this site doesn't show it as all caps it just capitalizes the first letter of each word. but thanks for you remark, it really helped me with the ich.
