It's a mystery to me

With all the trouble I have with growing things in my tank...I visited a house today with a like a 1 wpg set up, with DIY co2 and it's a jungle that looks great! There are anubias and crypts, but also other plants which shouldn't be doing well. Maybe I'm hallucinating? :) Can anyone explain this? Luck? :)
