Hello, Im just getting back off deployment, it's great to be home. Unfortunately my tanks were left to my 12 year old son, who did his best, but barely changed any water, and only topped off the tanks. I had to replace 2 power heads on the 55. Everyone made it, but didnt look to happy.
The Oscar didnt fair to well in the 75, my filters on the 75 are a magnum 350 pro canister, and a emporer 400. Both were so crammed with gunk the they were barely moving any water. The Oscar has what I believe is hole in the head, some really nasty looking scars and holes. Does anyone know about any cures to kill of the parasites eating him up. I haven't seen any wounds on his tank mates, a bluegill that my son caught about a year or so ago, and the pleco looks well also. Does this affliction only affect cichlids?
I added a second emporer 400 today, the filters all have had a "tune up", and the the water is really cranking over now. Is there ever such a thing as too much filtration?
Thanks for any feedback.

Semper Fi!
Mike

Welcome back! Thanks for your service!

Welcome back and thank you for serving. I'm sure lLots of water changes over the near future will improve things a lot. Again, glad you're back and okay.

Thanks, and Ive changed it quite a few times since Ive been back. I love the python system, makes water changes in the 75 a snap.

Welcome back & congratulations to you and yours on your safe return home !

Best thing you can do for the fish is a daily water change - big numbers like 80% - should get them back in condition pretty sharpish. I would do that for like a week before medicating, presuming the fish is still eating.

Get them a good and varied diet - poor diet has been associated with HITH.
