With all the organisms in an aquarium, especially in reef aquaria, I've always wondered if it's possible any parasites or anything could be spread to humans via aquarium maintenance. Are there any known cases of marine parasites inhabiting humans? I don't know about the biology of it all but if they can inhabit fish, why not people?

Am I really weird for wondering about this... I don't know.

ive never heard of anything like that happening. the reason it most likely couldnt happen is b/c the parasites probably couldnt survive in our high body temperature.

Here is a related story for you:

Several years ago I had something going on on (or in) the pad of my thumb. When it got bad enough I went to the doctor who said that I had an infection and he put me on antibiotics. The condition continued to get worse and the flesh started to get black. Antibiotocs were changed to something much more powerful. Condition worsened and a biopsy was done. It was determined that I had some kind of bacteria that is normally found in fish. Ultimately, I had to have a good portion of the flesh on my thumb surgically removed. It took a month or more for the crater in my thumb to fill back in. Yuck!

The moral of the story is YES - You can get nasty things from marine fish. INTERESTINGLY though, I did not have aquariums at that time and my only contact with fish was with marine fish caught in the bay.
