I've lost 6 fish in 2 days HELP!!!!!

OKay I have a 75 Gal. tank in which I house African Cichlids, here are the readings:
Ph- 8.0-8.2
Ammo-0
Nitirtes-0
Nitrates-20-40 ppm
In my tank I had:
2 Jewel Cichlids ( both now DEAD)
2 Kenyi ( both now DEAD)
2 Yellow labs
2 albinos (both now DEAD)
2 orange (that I forgot the name of)

And I cant figure out whats going on, if anyone has any help I would appreciate it. I am going to do a water change now.

do you notice any aggression?
can you find pics of the 'orange' ones you have?
what have you been feeding them?
how old are the fish?
how long have you had them?

I have had these fish for about 4 months, no sudden temp change, and have benn feeding them the same tetra cichlid flakes for the entire time, now I have one that is doing barrel rolls like his equlibrium is messed up. The orange ones are the same ones in your pic.:sad

sounds like some kind of poisoning to me. add any new decorations lately? forget to change water for awhile? disturb some substrate?

My little girl killed 3 Zebra Danios
and I thought they were indestructable

re: barrel rolls

Definetly sounds like acute poisoning. I had the same thing happen, and I ended up losing an opaline gourami and a zebra danio. I would take out the fish that's doing the barrel roll. It's already too late for him. Definetly do a water change to try to get rid of whatever toxin...could be a new tank decoration, maybe you had your hands in the tank, something floated in from outside the tank, any number of possibilities. I would keep up the water changes everyday until things improve, and remove any fish that start on the barrel rolls...just my experience.

Keep doing water changes and add some carbon to the filter.

it might have been that there was a power-outage during one of the nights. I had a couple of cichlids and over-night 2 or 3 of them died because the filter stoped. I woke up and there they were, belly-up. of course this is unlikly but stuff happens.
