I don't no how I missed it carrying the eggs in her mouth but my jacob has babies in her mouth right now...I went to feed this evening and I noticed her not eating just going to the food and turning around, so I looked at her closer and noticed an eye showing through her cheeck then when she opened her mouth I could see a little eye looking out. I am going tomorrow morning to get my 29 out of storage to get it set up for her..any advice??

Well, I got a tank set up for her...I couldn't use the 29 because it leaked so I just ran and bought a 10 gallon for now I hope she will be ok in there till she let's the babies out. I added rock and plants from the tank I took her out of and some filter media from the tank too.

Now when she releases the babies is there anything special I should do for them?

I went ahead and ordered "first bites" from Dr. Foster & Smith, I'm not sure how long she keeps them in her mouth but it has now been 3 day's since I noticed them, and I read they will have an egg sac attached when they first come out that they will get all their nutrience from so I am hoping they will be ok until I get that (since I ordered on a Thrusday night) it will be a while I'm sure before I get them.

I also read that it is good to feed them bbs...I don't have live bbs but I do have frozen along with spirulina enhanced blood worms, would that be ok to feed them?

Also one other question here...the momma wont eat (well she has a mouth full after all), should I still put food in there for her or should I wait until she releases them, I don't want to mess up my water perimaters, but if there is a chance she does somehow eat I don't want to not feed her?

This article says they hold for 21-36 days. I've heard 3 weeks or so.

Hope that helps some! I don't have any first hand experience, yet, so all I can do is provide some reading for ya. ;)

Sometimes if its their first hold, they might spit them too early or swallow them. One of my female eurekas (A. jacobfriebergi) was holding for about a week, but she swallowed them. :( I couldn't get to her in my tank, so she was most likely stressed out by the other fish.

Thanks for the articles, she seems to be doing well so far they have hatched and she still has them...I am keeping an eye on her so once she releases them I can move her back and hopefully they can be safe in a tank alone.

BTW she is a jacob. otter point I don't think I ever said which Jacob she was.

Sorry to keep posting on this but OMG it is driving me CRAZY I want her to release them so I can see them....just seeing an eye when she opens her mouth is making me INSANE!!!:duh:

I can't find my camera right now:mad2: , but I plan on scouring this house tomorrow so if I find it I will post some pics...otherwise I will try taking with my phone and sending them to my email and try that way, but I'm not sure my phone will take very good pics.
 
Does anyone know if I should be feeding her? Well at least trying to feed her...I've read many articles and they all say how she wont eat or will eat very little while she is carrying them, but they really don't say what I should do? I've been adding just a few flakes when I add food but they are not getting eaten and I'm worried about the effect on my water...should I do water changes or will that stress her to much????
