Java fern plantlet

I have a rather large java fern that has several babies growing from it. The largest of the babies has about 4 little leaves and you can see a new rhizome forming. When should I remove the baby from the mother?

You can if you wish, or just let them grow from there for a while longer.

I don't mind them being on the mother plant I just worry if I leave them too long they will take nutrients from the mother plant and harm it.

If you keep the babies of the mother plant, the mother plant will probably grow better, but most little ferns don't do well unless they are a bit grown.

It won't harm the mother plant since the babies grow their own roots and everything. So they would get most nutrients from their own roots instead of relying off the mother plant.

from things i have read after the babies reach a certain size they will drop off the mother plant
