This is my bottom tank in my "man room". I set up a piece of driftwood across the bottom and attached java fern all the way across it. I didn't have much to start with but now theres much has been branching off and growing I moved a bunch to other tanks. But I was wondering what other designs people have done with java fern. I also put a big group on a rock attempting a java fern mat.

Any ideas would be great! thanks ahead of time all. I stuck with java fern because it's a low light tank, I'll probably stick with java fern and maybe anubuis one one day

Looks great! I like it!

I use my java ferns as a "side boundary," as seen below:

This photo is about 5 months old, so those ferns have grown in nicely. Unfortunately, the other background plants haven't fared so well. I need to rescape soon...

swt tank, I like the ferns in the corners like that. I can't keep ludwigia for anything in even my higher wattage tanks. Your moss ledge looks good, mine grow too crazy, I can't get it to look like grass, just a big huge mass of moss. How's your anubias doing? mine grow great on driftwood

Thanks! :)

Yeah, I just threw out my ludwigia. It was making a mess...The moss? well, that's just a matter of trimming it back. It looks like a "mowed lawn" when it's trimmed.

My anubias are doing alright. Lots and lots of new growth, but Im getting ugly black algae on mature leaves. It rubs off with a little elbow grease, but who wants to sit and rub leaves all day? Any tips on that?

sounds like bba. not much yu can do the stuff is indestructable true sae will eat it but finding them is hard i bought mine here on the forum

nguyendetecting What size tank is that and how many watts lighting.
I am in the process of re setting up my 30 long as a low light anubius / maybe java tank. Do you use ferts or co2 ? How bout excel ?
I am running a GLO fixture with 48 watts 10,ooo k . I'm not sure if that is considered a low light setup . I heard that you don't need to fertilize anubius ? Is that correct ? Sorry for all the questions . Any thoughts ?

I have a high tech 125 high light but never did low light.

Thanks

I grew 80% of that java fern in my 55gallon tank with two 26watt spiral compact bulbs. No ferts, co2, or excel. I think a good key to grown plants is good water flow (besides lighting and all the good stuff). If you're going with a low light tank java fern and anubuis would be good for you. I had all my anubias growing in my 20H with no ferts, or co2, stuff grows great. I never really got bba until my kribs spawned and I had to put a sponge on my filter intake. It took a few weeks but the reduce water flow I'm guessing bba started to appear. I did a quick bleach dip and moved all the anubuis to another tank.

48watts on your 30long should be a good setup for a lowlight tank. It's nice to have a tank that you don't need to fert and co2. Though you already got that down with your high tech 125 =).
