Java Fern

Be forewarned about curing your own driftwood. Some wood, no matter how dense it seems ends up rotting when put in an aquarium long term. Hopefully you will get a good idea of what it will do after boiling and soaking for a few weeks.

Lots of driftwood on Aquabid too.

As for Java fern, way back when before I knew any better, I planted a little bit of it. The roots and rhizome did not rot, contrary to popular belief, it didn't grow a whole lot while it was planted (6 months or so), but it was healthy when I pulled it and attached it to a rock.

I have actually had a similar experience with Anubias Lancelota, although I did know better but had to bury some of the rhizome jus to get it to stay down. I've since re-located it to a new tank and it is thriving with just a little bit of the rhizome tucked into the substrate.

Even though you lucked out with your plants, I still wouldn't advise burying the rhizome. The odds are stacked against it.

I'm working on a driftwoody solution. Is there an issue with ungraveling them and letting them kinda just sit/float around?
