Java Fern

Regular sewing thread works nicely. It'll hold the roots down long enough for them to take hold and then rot away. A nice dark brownish thread is almost invisible to begin with.

I wouldn't use staples, but assuming they're steel, they aren't poisonous.
 
Rocks. Sure thing. Java fern is not too fussy about what it latches onto. When I pulled out my wisteria last week, I found several small java plantlets tucked in among them. They must have detached from the mother plant and whirled around the tank until they got trapped by the mass of wisteria.
 
Thanks and well my lfs plants look soo sad. The leaves on those plants are not growing and they have turned brown so I did not buy them and i'll probably order my plants. The plants at my lfs are Java Fern also.
