Hi Guys

I have recently bought some Java Moss from my lfs which is already attatched to a small piece of wood. The moss has now covered the wood but will it form a blanket over the gravel now or does it need wood (eg drift wood) to grow on?

nope will attach to gravel anything tht is corse....except for me it hates me

mine slowly moved from the log to the gravel..I pull it up and toss handfulls of the stuff..

I do have some low clinging to one of my logs..it's really cool looking..never seen it do that..

man how do you get java moss to grow? i can get just about anything to thrive, but i can't even get my java moss to turn anything but DARK green and not growing. have i just habitually gotten bad batches? i have some in my low-tech tank (1.2wpg, no co2, no ferts), and in the growout tank (2.8wpg, 11-15-20 once every 10 days, DIY co2) to no avail.

Do you have it attached to anything? Mine is attached to slate and it grows upward about an inch and half in a month. It also looks nice bright green. I know that it grows a darker green when it doesn't gets lots of light. Also whenever I didn't have it attached it grew like it was tumbleweed all sickly and thin. What temp is your tank? Mosses generally do better at lower temps like the 70s, but then again my tank is usually in the 82-86 range.

i keep my tanks at a steady 76F. it's attached to slate in the growout tank, and driftwood in the low-tech.

Maybe you should call the pope over to bless it? :dance2:  I don't know what the problem is probably just wants to get on your nerves.
