I would simply wedge or leave them in the location you want them or simply tie them with a cord.

thats what i did.... also fish line or cotton thread.

i use fishing line. it is almost invisible and the moss grow over it very quickly.

Moss Cotton. I use it for everything. It melts away over time...

WHen I first got java moss, I just bunched it together, and dropped a handfull of gravel on top. That held it down long enough for it to grab hold of whatever it could. Now it's a pain to clean the stuff out!

Yeah, I tried this method, in fact, still "trying" this method(I'm not ready to commit my java moss to a piece of driftwood yet). This method doesn't work for me at all. Between my dojo loach and pleco, they tear the stuff up at night.
