Say you had a thin half inch sand substrate on the bottom of a 100g tank running on 2x303's. And when you did water changes you sucked up sand as well as the water. Cleaned the sand and put it back into the tank with clean water. Is this feasible and does it negate any problems caused by nasty black stuff growing under the sand?

Thanks for your time :)

Makes sense to me. I don't see why it woudn't work... anyone?

BTW, how would you go abotu putting it back into the tank without making a huge mess?

When I syphon my tank, some of the sand gets sucked into the pale I use. When I dump out the yucky water, much of the sand stays on the bottom of the pale, so when I fill it up w/the clean water, I just dump it in the tank putting most of the sand back in....

cut the bottom off of a 2 liter bottle and use it to "funnel" the sand into the tank, you can hold it about 1 inch off the "ground"
