Just ended up with a JAVA FERN!! HELP!

Happy,
You may have just clued me in to my growth stagnation problem. the Java's were going gangbusters and then kinda stopped although they are still green and healthy. recently my wife has been keeping the AC off and the basement seems to hold heat a little better than the rest of the house. my tanks have all been hovering around the 80-82 mark, despite my constant nagging to get my wife to cool it down a bit. The temp is back down enough that the heaters are running (76* F heater setting) so it should reveal if that is the problem.

I am really hoping the rhyzomes grow back as well or else my betta will continue to stare at his little stump with roots.

Woah woah woah!! You let your wife control the thermostat?

*hangs head*

Shame.... shame :(

:D :D
on the bright side, winter isn't far off, so even if the wife doesn't give into your requests, it should help bring it down naturally.

I grow my javas in 82F...and they grow like mad in my 55g.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your help.
My tank temp is normally 78-80*F and occaisionally moves itself up to 82*F. Any pH/chemical levels I have to worry about?

Oh yeah, I know a way to kill it! Buy a chemical made to kill algae that says: "Do not use on aquariums with live plants or fish!" :D

The Java is Doin great!!

Yeah I know, I'm only gone 5 days a week 45 weeks a year and she tries to take over!!!! :sad   (man I love these smileys)

Since I'm never at home she does get to chose ambient temperature in the house. My hotel rooms are kept at about 60* year round. I like it cold. and you are correct, in the winter time (or when the air is on) the basement stays in the low 60's all the time.

I think felix likes it. He keeps swimming through the leaves :)

Actually felix is a girl, I just luv the name. I dunno why I say "He" all the time, but I'm sure there are tons of people who keep goldfish in bowls and have NO CLUE whether it is a boy or a girl, they just pick witch gender they like best. :o
