Well I have been into aquariums for around 8 years now and just picked up a 225g tank for 250.00 including sump protien skimmers co2 system heaters 1 72" 4 bulb halide light. Oviously this tank was set up for salt but I will be converting it to fresh, what is the best way to do this scrub and rinse really good and check ph? This tank will be american cichlids syno cats and plecos! After owning several tanks in the 10-125g range this is the mecca for me I cant wait to get it all set up and share some pics with you guys!

Grats! Just be careful where you put it. Thats over a metric ton of water sitting in your house....

I agree, I might think about doubling up on your floor joice as insurance unless it is going in the basement. To clean the calcium, try on the flat parts a sharp flat blade to scrape. That was a sweet deal, good for you.
Can't wait to see the set up.

Terry.

Well if you ever expect this crazy idea to work, first your going to have to send me the skimmer, the CO2, the light and the sump. Would hurt if you sent me the tank too. For free that is, you pay shipping.

O.K. so I'm just jealous and being a wee bit sarcastic.

As the folks above said vinegar works well and so does scraping, personally for the tank I would scrape with vinegar as a lubricant/rinse, the sump and any pumps would have to be soaked for a while (here I would be tempted to put the sump on a recirculation - the output right back to the input - and use a bit of a stronger acid in it, but I would be using it in the tank too as I am a lazy bass turd) to get rid of everyting, but past getting any heavy deposits off, you'll be in like Flynn.

Congrats Flowerhorn! I have a 250 and it's heavy as the devil in pajamas. Be careful where you put it and the stand's structural resistance. I once developed a leak in that tank and it was because I didn't put enough legs in the stand. :hang:

Thanks guys my house is a concrete foundation no problems there I am working on a stand as we speak!

Wow. I paid 120 for just my 40 gallon breeder tank. I wish I could find deals like that! The sump itself was probably near 200 dollars, and then the co2, and the METAL HALIDE LAMPS! What a deal! Why can't I find things like that?

We used to have a 125 and stand when I was younger and my parents gave it away. LoL. Guess you just have to look hard for them.
