wow.
I just got home from an 8-day trip. Each tank was left with 9 day feeders. The seperated guppy/molly fry tank was in perfect condition (No dead or diseased fish...they grew alot and got color too!) MY other 20 gallon of mixed tropical community was great..nothing dead/diseased.
However, my 20 gallon of 6 guppies, 2 balloon bellied mollies was a disaster!
They were perfectly fine before I left. I had seperated one that was pregnant with a divider and that was it. When I came home I found 2 baby guppies on one side and on the divided side 6 balloon bellied mollies...unfortunately i would have to assume many of the babies got eaten. But that wasn't the biggest problem....
FOUR guppies I found dead. They have what looks like a white cload bubble around them...which i don't know might have been because they were left there dead for awhile while i was gone...or there is a disease in my tank. I only have 2 guppies now and the balloon bellied mollies are fine. I don't know what went wrong. I need help as soon as possible. And how long before I can replace them?? Or if there was a disease what is it and what can I do to cure it?

Please help & thank you.

Well, I guess I would just clean the tank out good...removing bodies and such....keep the fish that are in there and watch them for a bit to see how they do.

Don't be in a hurry to replace anything until you can determine if there is anything wrong in your tank or not. No telling what could have caused the deaths at this point I think...checking water parameters wouldn't work because the fish have obviously been dead awhile and that will certainly bring up the ammonia readings.

check for ammonia. depending on when they died, if decomp has set in, you may have an ammonia spike.

Thank you both. :)I think i'll do an exchange right now...and wait a couple weeks before replacing anything. At least all the babies are doing all right. Maybe I'll just keep some of their fry instead of replacing them so that i don't end up with any diseased fish from the store. My babies are almost half grown anyways. So I might put a couple of them in within a month or two to be certain.

I'll update this board soon. Hopefully the other fish are okay.

*update*

for seven days I have been putting in 5 ml. of Melafix in my tank each night.

It says it cures open red sores, fin & tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slim & mouth Fungus, and open body wounds.
It cures diseases in a safe and all natural way to treat bacterial fish infections.

Well, I am SOO happy to admit, my fish are now in perfect condition. I even thought about flushing one of them, due to terrible fin & tail rot and a few odd red spots which were abnormal, I thought it might spread to everything. But I just continued to treat my tank and now i couldn't be happier. It actually worked.

Yay! I'm replacing the guppies I lost while I was away, tomorrow. I'll make sure to buy healthy ones.
Thanks to everyone's comments/help. This is my favorite website, you are all so kind and helpful, I don't know what I would do without you, i would probably be fishless! :)

thank you.
