My connector is brass but they sell plastic replacement ones at my LFS.
Yes my sink is at the same height as my tank so I have to leave the water running. It is the only sink in the house that has the right threads, so I have no other options. I never wash my car so I figure I'm breaking even on water use, plus I'm in Louisiana, we've got water.
You might be surprised how much of the wastewater actually makes it back into the environment. Water is constantly recycled on the earth and it is millions of years old. Some areas are drier than others which can present problems for some, but those who live in areas with lots water need not worry. We have been in a drought for years and years here but I dont feel bad wasting a little bit of water. A lot of the cities here have reclamation projects that they do with recycled water.
So not all of us can get away with as much as others.
the connector for my python leaks when its on and the valve is locked on the other end but once you start draining the water into the tank the pressure stops and it doesn't leak anymore
i have the plastic one and it just doesn't leak from where it is connected it leaks where ever there is a joint (meeting of the plastics) in the T connector.
all the water that we use and waste ends up back into the oceans. no water disappears forever so i dont understand what the problem is. some areas recieve less rain than other in which they have to conserve. unless there is a long pipeline, but for the most part water is plentiful and will be here as long as we are. now we use desalination to take fresh water straight out of the oceans so we dont need rain to fill our reservoirs. if you live in a desert then you know water needs to be conserved and are choosing to deal with that issue. most big cities dont have these issues. even when i lived in the cayman islands, tap water was a dollar per 4 gallons. it is pricey but it is an island. regardless, the water supply will never run out...or it would have a long time ago.
i create a syphon by sucking the other end of the hose and leaving it in my bath tub to go down the drain. the sink method is pointless because it is messy and doesnt suck water as well as a gravity syphon. i attach a pump to the end of the hose if i want to drain the tank faster. works for me. then i fill the tub with fresh new water and reverse the pump so the water goes straight into the tank. no need to dechlorinate since my entire house is filtered.
