So today has been just friggin great.

Lousy day at work only to come and find out that mu festivum (the smaller of the two I own) decided to check out the basement the hard way.

After supper I went downstairs to see how it was doing. It was in a hospital tank because it lost a fight. I was going to move it to a regular tank sometime this week because it was doing great.

I had a two pieces of egg crate on top of the tank to keep the fellow in. He usually is a jumper. I also put a full bottle (the big one) of water conditioner on top of the egg crate for added security.
Well the bloody security failed. The bottle was in the tank and one of the pieces of egg crate was about 5 feet from the tank. Next to that was a large very dry fish.

I asked and nobody was downsatirs today, because I thought of Charlie right away. He likes to help me with my fish. Usually only when I'm around. It wasn't him.

The nearest I can figure is that the fish jumped hit the egg crate hard enough to move the bottle and then it fell in and the fish jumped again taking the loose egg crate piece with it.

Arrghhh!!!! I am so bloody peeved right now. Although he was the smaller of the two (the other is 9") he was flawless even after the beating. 7 is far too young for a cichlid to die, especially a pretty, extremely healthy one. Death by floor is also the worst way for a fish to die.

Tomorrow had better be better than today.
