Just need to vent...

I feel for you Ems, and totally understand what you're going through. I rented for a number of years in Vancouver and dealt with all sorts of landlord, tenant and parking issues. Parking is at such a premium, especially with so many people/families owning more than one car and such high density in the neighbourhoods...the streets and available parking weren't originally designed to accomodate so many people. Even in a lower density neighbourhood, the neighbours can get pretty uptight about who is parking where on the street...especially in front of their properties.

It's a very simple solution, Your landlord is lying! he is taking back handers.
Screw your landlord and screw the tow company! Leave as soon as you can and meanwhile the next guy that tries to lift your front wheels off the floor....hit him with the wheel wrench....problem solved!!!!:D

Ems, sorry to hear about all the grief that has been coming your way. I would also say that you are correct in thinking your being targeted. You mentioned that alot of tenents own their apartments and you are renting. Many people do not care for renters. What I mean by that is, they never really get to know their neighbors as the tenents can come and go. Some people will make it almost unbearable for anyone who rents that apartment. As you also stated the tenants before you had problems.

That doesn't help you out though. Keep your chin up and smile June is only 3 months away. Then get out as fast as you can. After that it won't be your problem anymore.

I thought the same thing too BooHoo.... I'm not trying to make a judgement, but the majority of people that own are older. I know that a young couple isnt the most appealing renter for them. Come to think of it, my landlord has had trouble keeping tenants longer than the year.. thats IF they last that long.

I wonder if it woiuld be cheaper to pay the lease break than to stay.... monetarily as well as emotionally, know what I mean? I would have to agree with Mike though, you shouldn't have to be liable for those charges you paid when the parking was in the time frame allowed because you had no paperwork and the landlord should be.

I bet it would, DD. The only problem I see with it is that we will have no reference for wherever we go. Before this place, no one would let us move in because we had no reference. Can't afford to buy right now, so we're going to have to rent for at least a couple more months.

I think he should be responsible too. It's not up to me to state that because I am a "visitor", and my BF doesn't like confrontation, and doesn't want to screw up a reference. I'm going to wait and see what the LL says when he phones. I'll keep you updated on that and on whether or not I get my car back tonight.

Ems,

Is there no Landlord and Tenant Review Act in effect in BC? From what you were posting I assumed you were in the States, but you're not. It's very possible that you have legal rights against this dork that you are unaware of. Get a hold of your provincial rent laws and find out what you can do about this. Usually it doesn't cost a thing to a lawyer look into it.

No one should have to put up with that kinda crap.
