So one of my ropefish is hanging out on the side of the tank today and i notice something very werid. One of his gills/fins (not sure the correct term) was missing. Heres a picture showing exactly what is missing.

I'm not exactly sure how this happened. My pictus catfish was attacking both ropefish recently (maybe this was the reason), and im getting rid of the catfish tomorrow afternoon. Or maybe he was rubbing against something rough? But will this fin grow back? or he is wounded for life? Anything special i need to do?

I think your pictus got the better of your ropefish. This is a serious injury I think. Fish use these fins for directional navigation, such as hovering, and turning. It will grow back, but he might be compromised as far as swimming goes, and become more of a victim to the pictus. You better move that pictus asap. I've seen mine battling with my rainbow shark, he uses the barb on the top of his back in a stabbing motion. Its a very effective weapon.

Pictus is gone. **** catfish makes me mad. I love my ropefish. :rant2: anyway I used to have some product called stress coat which was a gel like substance. It says, "Contains Aloe Vera to help heal wounds & torn fins", would this help speed the process of healing up? or is it all just a marketing scheme.
