I just placed a order for these plants for my 29 gallon tank.
Any comments on these plants would be great as I never had these plants before.

Red Tiger Lotus
Ludwigia glandulosa
Kleiner bar Sword submersed LG
Cryptocoryne lutea LARGE potted
Mermaid weed
Ludwigia palustris
Cryptocoryne wendtii red potted
Cryptocoryne wendtii bronze reg pot

For the crypts, you could do a lot of good minimizing crypt rot if you gently remove the container they come in and place them in their final position in the tank on the first go. If you unbury them and move them around a lot they might drop more leaves or be slower to bounce back.

The other plants I can speak about from first hand experience:
-Ludwigia palustris: I have it at 3 wpg and it grows like a weed. Very colorful and for me keeps it's leaves tight.

-Mermaid weed: If you're referring to Proserpinaca palustris, this plant failed for me. I had it at 3 wpg, co2 and macro fertz. The tank was also at 80 degrees. I speculate the lack of micros and heat through lengthy transit led to its demise.

About Crypts.
If I have a long root section that goes deeper then my substrate, how close to the plant can I trim it?
I'm not talking about the thin root system, I'm referring to that thick white stem looking main root that is sometimes too long to plant the plant properly in the ground.

How long did you have the Mermaid weed in your tank before it started to die?

I always trim all of the roots before I plant new crypts and before I replant older crypts, without issue. The trim forces the roots to grow thicker and the plants are going to put lots of roots down first before they have top growth. If you've got a small crypt, I would not cut it shorter than abput 1.5", if you've got a medium sizes crypt, I'd leave 2-3".

Proserpinaca is native to the USA, so its sort of a cold water plant. Your tank temp may have had something to do with it. The plant grows extremely slowly, and requires a lot of patience. Its funny, in the Asian hobby market the plant is considered very rare and very expensive. Here in this country the plant is considered very common and is inexpensive.
